CARTHAGE, Mo. —
James Eugene "Gene" Hole, 71, passed away April 20, 2013, at Freeman Hospital.
Gene was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Carthage, to Everett Hole and Imogene Johnson Hole. Gene was born and raised in Carthage, where he returned in 1980. Gene served in the Air Force. He was a cable repair technician and had worked for Southwestern Bell for 33 years, retiring in 1999. Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage. He was a Boy Scouts Troop No. 9 committee member. Gene enjoyed fishing and woodworking, he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Center Creek Social Club.
Gene was united in marriage to Marilyn Richards Oct. 5, 1963, in Wilkinsburk, Pa. She survives.
Gene is survived by two sons, Jeff Hole and wife, Ginny, of Carthage, and David Hole and wife, Marie, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jake Wiemeth, Mike and Kayla Hole, Trevor and Chelsy Hole, Rob Hole and wife, Clarrissa, Marissa and Samantha Hole; two great-grandsons, Wyatt and Kayden Hole; and one brother, Don Hole and wife, Margaret, of Neck City, Mo. Gene is preceded by his parents and two brothers, Dean Hole and Royce Hole.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at First United Methodist Church of Carthage, with Rev. James Lee officiating the service. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial is in Carterville Cemetery, Carterville, Mo.
