Dean N. Christenson

JOPLIN, Mo. — Dean N. Christenson, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on June 26, 2013.

He was born on June 27, 1931, in Duluth, Minn. He had a twin sister and one older brother born to Edwin L. and Nelly D. Christenson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Jane Christenson.

He is survived by three children, Allen Christenson, of Neosho, Mo., Susan Knaup, of Columbus, Kan., and Sarah Anderson, of Joplin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his twin sister, Darlene Bauers, of Campo, Calif.; and brother, Dwayne Christenson, of Lakeside, Calif.

Dean grew up in Duluth, where he attended Central High School. He served in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952. While on leave in 1952, he met his future wife, Mary Jane Linski in Duluth. He was introduced to her by his sister, Darlene. It was "love at first sight" and they were married that same year.

In the early years of their marriage, he worked as an interior designer and furniture salesman for Gabbert's Furniture in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1968, the family moved to Vista, Calif., where he worked for Dryer's Furniture. While there, he did interior decorating for such notable celebrities as Desi Arnaz and Jimmy Durnate. After moving his family to Kansas in 1974, he started his own business customizing automobiles. Dean was very active as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as an elder for many years.

He was very sociable and loved entertaining friends and family. He enjoyed cooking, traveling, camping and boating. He will fondly be remembered for his joke-telling and sense of humor.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at the Joplin West Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1201 South Schifferdecker, Joplin.
