JOPLIN, MO —
Betty Lou Kolkmeyer, age 81, of rural Joplin, Newton County, Mo., passed away on Oct. 6, 2012, after a long illness.
She was born May 31, 1931, to Frank and Inez (Squires) Knapp in Weir, Kan.
Betty graduated from Joplin High School in 1949.
She married Alfred Kolkmeyer on May 7, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Ark. They had a son, David; and a daughter, Terri.
Betty helped Alfred and his brother, Jim, with the family dairy. She worked at Howard Johnson's in Joplin for several years and later as a sales clerk before retiring. She continued to help Alfred run the family farm until he was no longer able to do so.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George, Frank and Bob Knapp; and her sisters, Mary Box, Mayme Smith, Elizabeth Gardner and Sarah Hauser. She lost her daughter, Terri Lynn Kolkmeyer Espy in December 2008; and her husband, Alfred in April 2009.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and DeAnn (McCulley) Kolkmeyer; two grandsons, Dalton Kolkmeyer and Dane Kolkmeyer; son-in-law, Scott Espy; brother, John Knapp; niece and dearest friend, Jo Gardner and husband, Rudy Gardner; and many other nieces and nephews.
Betty has been taken for cremation and no services are planned at this time.
Arrangements are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
