JOPLIN, MO —
Bobbie Joe Powell, age 71, Joplin, passed away at 3:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
Bobbie was born April 30, 1941, in Joplin, to the late Willard James Powell and Evelyn Points Powell and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
He worked at Crouch's Foundry, Duenweg, Obrien's Poultry, Anderson, Joplin Paper Company and had also worked as an independent roofer. He was a member of the Joplin Eagles Lodge No. 2510 and was a longtime faithful member of First Gospel Workers Church.
He married Nadine Hettinger on March 11, 1980, in Joplin. She preceded him in death on July 13, 2008.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Weigel; four brothers, Charlie, Willie, James and Rodney; a sister, Sue Kelley; a granddaughter, Terra Fisher; two great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren that he adored.
Services are planned for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Phil Erwin will officiate. Interment will follow in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rodney Powell, James Powell, Charlie Powell, Willie Powell, David Jenkins and Dennis Points. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
