BAXTER SPRINGS, KS —
Martha Edith Wilhelm, 90, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed from this life Monday, Dec, 10, 2012, at Jordan Creek Nursing Center, Springfield, Mo.
Edith was born Aug.15, 1922, at Dewey, Okla., to the union of Bert and Mauda (Bowman) Robinson.
She was united in marriage to Laverne A. Wilhelm at Holton, Kan., Jan. 26, 1941. He preceded her in death May 30, 1997.
Edith was a lifelong resident of Baxter Springs, and enjoyed her time volunteering at the Ministerial Alliance Thrift Shop. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs. Some of Edith's favorite hobbies include crossword puzzles in ink, jigsaw puzzles, crochet and reading and had recently started using her new Nook and iPad to read and play various games. She loved playing and spending time with the great-great grandchildren.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, David Wilhelm; and one son-in-law, Gary Garoutte.
Edith is survived by two daughters, Barbara Garoutte, of Springfield, and Martha Gaer and husband, Edward, of Kearns, Utah; five grandchildren, Gary Don Garoutte and wife, Sharon, of Battlefield, Mo., Sheri L. Cooper, of Springfield, Scott Garoutte and wife, Connie, of Fair Grove, Mo., Richard B. Gaer and wife, Lisa, of Tooele, Utah, and Kathy Gaer and significant other, Mark Olsen, of South Jordan, Utah; seven great-grandchildren, Michelle Waskoviak, of Springfield, Michael Griffin and significant other, Madeline Carpenter, of Springfield, Chad Garoutte, of Fair Grove, Ryan Gibson and wife, Danielle, of Camdenton, Mo., Dustin Gibson and wife, Sara, of Visalia, Calif., Monique Esplin, of Tooele, and Autumn Gaer, of Tooele; and four great-great-grandchildren Bradly Waskoviak, Isobel Carpenter, Layne Gibson and Dade Gibson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Ministerial Alliance in care of the funeral home.
