NEOSHO, Mo. —
Bobby "Bob" Gene Payton, 82, Neosho, Mo., entered into rest on July 6, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 14, 1931, in Neosho, to James Anderson Payton and Dona (Crow) Payton.
Bob was a lifelong area resident and worked many years for Southwest Lime. He then went to work for Branham Bros. as a construction laborer and retired in 1986. He enjoyed raising cattle and loved playing his guitar at nursing homes. He was also an avid coon hunter. He was a member of the Arkansas Old Time State Fiddlers Association, Missouri Coon Hunter's Association and was a member of the Newton County Sheriff's Posse.
Bob married Shirley Homuth on April 21, 1957 in Neosho. She survives.
He is also survived by his children, Pam Payton, of Neosho, and Teresa and (John) Gross, of Gulfport, Miss.; granddaughter, Candace Gross; sister, Ruth Davis, of Seneca, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Genoa Cox, Goldie Perry and Mona Darlene Payton; and brothers, Arthur, Gerald, Lloyd, Harold, Leroy and Lonnie Payton.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at Gibson Cemetery, Neosho, Dr. Jerry Siegel officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho.
