JOPLIN, Mo. —
Harold "Van" VanderWeide, of Joplin, passed away July 4, 2013, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon, following a short illness.
Van was born April 19, 1921, to Jacob and Maude VanderWeide in Grand Rapids, Mich. He moved to Joplin in the early 1970s. Van served our country for over 20 years in the Navy serving during World War II and the Korean War attaining the rank of Yeomen First Class. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 534 where he served for many years as post commander and district commander.
Van Married Coralie Carson on Aug. 20, 1955, in San Diego, Calif. She preceded him in death Aug. 26, 2000. He then married Frances Lynch, she preceded him in death as well.
He was also preceded by his parents and a daughter, Jacqueline Robbins.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Kramer, of Joplin; two brothers, John VanderWeide, of Texas, and Roger VanderWeide, of Jackson, Mich.; eight grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday, July 12, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. There will be a reception at the VFW following the service.
