WEBB CITY, Mo. — Curtis Joseph Kamler, 84, of Webb City, Mo., went home to be with his Savior on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. He was born near Japan, Mo., on Nov. 12, 1929, to Joe and Ida Kamler.

Curtis graduated from high school in Cuba, Mo. in 1948, and began his long teaching career that fall. He taught grades one through eight at Bailey and Taylor Schools in Cuba, while pursuing his college education. He attended Southwest Baptist College, where he met his late wife, Reba, who he married in 1951. He received his Bachelor's degree from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College and his Master's degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Curtis taught high school industrial arts in Appleton City, Mo. for two years before moving to Webb City, where he taught from 1959 until his retirement in 1988, when the industrial arts center was named in his honor. He was instrumental in the development and passage of Proposition C in 1982, to better fund education in Missouri. His passion for education prompted him to return to teaching part time for an additional nine years after his retirement. He influenced many lives in his years of teaching and was an inspiration to students and colleagues alike.

Curtis trusted the Lord and was saved at the age of 17. He was a long time member, Sunday School teacher and deacon of First Baptist Church in Webb City.
