Audley Hervey Jr.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Audley N. Hervey Jr. passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Dec. 31, 2013, at his home.

Audley was born Nov. 15, 1938, the son of the late Rev. Audley and Grace (Chapman) Hervey in Joplin, Mo.

Born and raised in Joplin, Audley married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Kingrey, on Oct. 18, 1957. They moved their family to Independence in 1965.

A hard worker and good provider, Audley worked 18 years as a stereotyper for both the Joplin Globe and Kansas City Star. Upon leaving the newspaper he began a prosperous career as a heavy haul owner-operator with recognition of over four million accident free miles. Audley traveled the country and made friends with every load he delivered.

Audley (Ol' Pa) loved his family and spent every possible moment with them. Whether together on a cruise, at the campground riding around in his golf cart, at the races or just having dinner together, the love he had for his family was obvious and his family mourns his passing deeply.

Audley was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years and children, LaVonda (Mike) Alleman, Tripp (Lynn) Hervey, Brad Hervey, all of Independence, and Shana (Ted) Powell, of Buckner. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Norma (Bryant) Mathis, of Hempstead, Texas.

The family will receive guests from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Salem Funeral Home in Independence. Service and burial will follow immediately after.

Donations can be made to the Bingham Waggoner Historical Society in Independence, Mo.
