Myra Jane "Petie" Wimer

JOPLIN, Mo. — Myra Jane "Petie" Wimer, age 77, of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at her home, following an illness.

Jane was born on Jan. 26, 1936, in Kansas City, Mo., the oldest of five daughters to Myra H. "Jack" and Ruth (McKinley) Sears. She has been a lifetime area resident. She graduated from Joplin High School a member of the class of 1954 and remained very involved with the class as an important member of their reunion committee. She also attended Joplin Junior College.

She married Daniel Joseph Wimer in 1954 and together they had three children. She was proud to be a successful small business owner, having owned and operated Commercial Gasket & Packing Company since 1965. She has always been very involved with many organizations. She was a member and past president of the American Business Womens Association. She was also a member of the local Womens Golf Association where she also served several terms as president. She was an active fund raiser for the Lafayette House where she helped organize their annual golf tournament. She loved golfing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a strong, forthright, loving, and amazing woman. She was the matriarch of the family and was an exceptional Mother and Grandmother. She impacted everyone that she met.

Jane is survived by her three children, Dan Wimer and his wife, Cristy, Don Wimer and Jenny Tatum, all of Joplin; two sisters, Nancy and husband, Harold Fox and Barbara and husband, Lee Taylor, Buffalo, Mo.; five grandchildren, Whitney Wimer, Natalie Wimer, Lauren Hight, Stephen Tatum and Dawsen Wimer; and three great-granddaughters, Makiah, Maleah and Makenna Wimer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Joseph Wimer in 1978; and two sisters, Julia Cole and Pat Dawson.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Brad Zerkel will officiate. The family will receive friends 5 to 6 p.m. Monday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be given to the Lafayette House in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
