Gerald Lee Curry


Gerald Lee Curry, 84, passed away Dec. 13, 2012, at Mount Vernon Veteran's Home.

Gerald was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Carthage, Mo., to Olga Harp Curry and Joe Curry Sr. Gerald was a longtime Carthage resident, moving to Webb City after he retired to be closer to his grandkids. He was a truck driver and owned and operated Hot-Shot pick up service then went to work for Jones Truck Lines from 1967 to 1991, retiring in 1991. Gerald was in the Navy from 1948 to 1952, where he was in the Korean War. Gerald was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church in Carthage, from 1965 to 1991. In 1991, he joined the Prairie Flower Bible Church in Webb City, and was a very active and dedicated member until he was stricken with Alzheimer's disease, as the disease progressed he was unable to attend.

Gerald was united in marriage to Wilma Henry Nov. 26, 1959, in Carthage. She survives.

Gerald is survived by two daughters, Guyla Curry, of Webb City, and Denise Curry Poulson, of Webb City; three grandchildren, Zac Anderson, Brooke Erwin and Trey Poulson; and two sisters, Agnes Waisner, of Carthage, and Pat Houston, of Carthage. Gerald was preceeded by his parents; two brothers, Joe Curry Jr. and Albert Curry; and one sister, Alice Owens.

Gerald was always willing to lend a hand to whoever needed it and was very generous. In honor of him, his family has decided to donate his body to science for the study of Alzheimer's in hopes of finding a cure for this debilitating disease. This research will not only help his own family but help others and his legacy of being a giver will live on forever.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Ulmer Funeral Home.
