William T. "Bill" Prater

NEOSHO, MO —

William T. Bill Prater, 91, Neosho, Mo., died Monday, May 21, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin, Mo., following a two and a half month illness.

He was born June 26, 1920, in Cushing, Okla., to William Coney and Dana May (Evans) Prater.

Mr. Prater was a lifelong area resident. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years, where he was a part of the Normandy Invasion. His military career also included serving in the National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves, for a total of 17 years, finishing his career as a warrant officer. He also worked as an electrician for Teledyne Neosho, for 25 years, retiring in 1983.

Bill married Evelyn Marie Wilson, Oct. 25, 1941, in Joplin; she survives.

Additional survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Sharon Prater, Diamond, Mo., and Kenneth and Gloria Prater, Dickenson, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Dennis Haller, Kearney, Mo.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a half-brother, John Prater, Palestine, Texas. He was preceded in death by a sister, Neoma; a half-sister, Connie; and a half-brother, Quinton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Clark Chapel of Memories, Neosho, with Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, south of Neosho, with full military honors.  Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Mike Prater, Joe Haller, Jeff Haller and great-grandsons, Stephen Bradford and Chris Prater. Friends may call at the funeral home in Neosho, Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
