NEOSHO, Mo. —
A couple together in life nearly 50 years, now together in death. Wendell L. Horton passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, just 38 days after his wife, Jean E. Horton, passed away. Wendell had a sudden illness and passed away peacefully at his home in Neosho, Mo., with family at the bedside, as his wife did.
Wendell was born July 21, 1928, in Knoxville, Tenn. He graduated from Knoxville High School. Wendell was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines.
He retired from Sunbeam in Neosho. Prior to that he was a house painter/interior restoration. Wendell had a love of gardening and telling a good joke.
Wendell leaves behind a son, Steven Horton; a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jeff Malasek; two step children, Don And Jim Rhodus; three sisters, Shirley Vaughn, Pat Kelly and Lilian Knight; and one brother, Newman Horton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean; two brothers, Horace Horton and Niles Horton; and one sister, Margaret Miller Fleenor.
There will be a service in memory of Wendell and Jean at the Newtonia Community Center on March 22, at 3 p.m.
