Larry Dale Creger

GRAHAM, N.C. — Larry Dale Creger, age 73, passed away suddenly at his home in Graham, N.C., on Friday, March 7, 2014.

Mr. Creger was born in Oswego, Kan., June 11, 1940. He is survived by his wife, Ida Creger.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Chuck Creger (Jan), of Ridgedale, Mo., and daughter, Sarah Creger Wilkinson (Mark), of Statesville, N.C. As well as his step-daughters, Carolyn Carranza and Renee Grayson of Fayetteville, N.C.

Mr. Creger was the son of the late Dale E. Creger and Marguerite Creger who, at 95, survives. He had three sisters; Judy Creger Forsyth, twins - Joyce Creger Cure (Dennis) and Janice Creger Bendure, all of Baxter Springs, Kan. Larry had five grandchildren: Logan Creger and Alexa Creger, of Branson, Mo., Jacob and Caleb Creger, of Ridgedale, Mo., and Clara Wilkinson, of Statesville. He also had six step-grandchildren, Pamela Huibsch, Orlando, Fla., Amanda Huibsch Lunt and Samantha Carranza, both of Fayetteville, N.C., Chris Grayson, Corey Grayson, and Saia Grayson all of Fayetteville, N.C., as well.

Larry attended Baxter Springs schools throughout his childhood. After school he joined the Air Force and also proudly served in the Army National Guard. He began his career as a tool designer and engineer in the early 1970s with Spike's Tool and Die in Webb City, Mo., and then Sperry-Vickers in Joplin. When the plant in Joplin closed in 1987 he, along with several others from Joplin, found his way to Statesville, N.C., to work at what became JS Barnes but has since closed. He finally retired from his long career at Engineered Controls/Rego in Burlington, N.C., in 2005.

He married the late Velma Lois Elliott in 1964. Sadly, Velma passed in 1988 in Joplin.

Larry later married Ida Grayson, also from Joplin, in  2001, and together they lived in Graham.

Larry was adored by all his friends and family members far and wide. He had a big, loving, generous heart, a wonderful humor and great laugh to match. His endless knowledge of cars, any type of machine, and old movies, especially Westerns, and his love for his family members and his cats will always be special memories for us all. He will be greatly missed.
