Richard Alan Sandeen

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Richard Alan Sandeen, 68, of Carl Junction, Mo., originally from West Mineral, Kan., died at 9 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo., following a short illness.  

Richard was born Aug. 28, 1945, in West Mineral, the son of Emil W. and Mary "Mickey" J. (Zerngast) Sandeen. Richard was a lifelong resident of the area and attended West Mineral schools and later graduated from Southeast High School.  

Richard worked for Pittsburg and Midway (P&M) Coal Company; owner and operator of Chicken Mary's, of Joplin, and later Wholesale Auto Paint, of Tulsa, Okla.  

Richard was of the Methodist Faith, a 32nd Degree Mason, motorcycle enthusiast, flying airplanes, golfing, the outdoors, gold mining, loved his tractor and most of all his family.  

Survivors include his sister, Gloria Lamb, of Altamont, Kan.; nieces, Kammie Wagerle, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Kristi Roedel and husband, Richard, of Broken Arrow, and Tasha Lamb, of Altamont; cousins, Larry Zerngast and wife, Karen, of Girard, Kan., and Donna Pichler and husband, Anthony, of Pittsburg, Kan.; and an aunt, Elizabeth "Tootie" Zerngast, of Pittsburg. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.  

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Pittsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the American Heart Association. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 South Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.
