CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage, Mo. - Flora Jean Harrison, age 82, of the Scotland Community, southwest of Carthage, Mo. passed away at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin following a lengthy illness.

Flora Jean was born Sept. 23, 1930, in the Scotland Community and had resided in the Joplin area all her life. She was a graduate of Joplin High School. She received her Bachelors Degree from the former Missouri Southern State College and her Masters Degree from Pittsburg State University.

She was employed as an elementary school teacher at Kelsey Norman Elementary School in Joplin for 18 years, retiring in 1988.

Flora Jean is survived by her husband, Carroll; one daughter, Cheri Cantwell and husband, Aaron, Carthage, Mo.; one son, Phillip Harrison and wife, Gay, Diamond, Mo.; two grandsons, Drew and Joel Babcock; and a great-granddaughter, Kendall Babcock, all of Carthage, Mo.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Stone Cemetery near Diamond, Mo. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Carthage Humane Society in care of the Mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
