JOPLIN, Mo. —
Chester L. Holden, age 81, of Joplin, went to be with the Lord at 5:18 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013.
Chester was born on Feb. 12, 1931, in Joplin, to William Holden and Cecil Mae (Bray) Holden. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He grew up in the Chitwood area. He was a Laundry Supervisor for Barnes Jewish Hospital for many years.
He is survived by two sisters, Marilyn West, Carl Junction, Mo., Dorothy Crowder, Joplin; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Holden, Bristow, Okla.; three granddaughters; and four great- grandchildren, all of Bristow, Okla.; and a host of friends and relatives. Chester was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Sue, of 20 years; one son, Melvin Holden; one daughter-in-law; his parents, Bill and Cecil Holden; four brothers, Joe Holden, Bob Holden, Delmar Holden, and Virgil Holden; two sisters, Evelyn Snider and Florence Atkinson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Kevin Prisock and Rev. Tracy Holden officiating. Burial will follow in the Carl Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, prior to the funeral.
