WEBB CITY, Mo. —
George R. "Bob" Hodges, age 83, of Webb City, Mo., passed away at 12:49 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at his home following an 18-month illness.
Bob was born April 3, 1930, in Oscaloosa, Mo. He had lived in the Webb City-Carl Junction area since 1967, moving here from Kellogg, Idaho. Bob was employed in the maintenance department of the former Elmhurst Nursing Home in Webb City, and the Turnaround Ranch in Joplin. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Webb City. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Bob married Joanne Starks Dec. 31, 1951, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Robert "Bob" Hodges and wife, Carol, Newark, Del., and Tom Hodges and wife, Patty, Purcell, Mo.; three daughters, Lynda Helms and husband, Glenn, Webb City, Brenda Richey and husband, Randy, Joplin, and Kathryn Buerge and husband, Ken, Carl Junction, Mo.; one sister, Virginia Rooks, Carthage, Mo.; a special niece, Cheryl Buckley and husband, Bill, Casper, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin, with Mike Geisert, Minister, officiating. A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church of Webb City.
Memorial contributions are requested to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
