Richard C. Steinbeck

JOPLIN, Mo. — Richard "Dick" Steinbeck, age 79, Joplin, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at his residence.

Dick was born June 22, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa to the late F.W. and Hildur Steinbeck and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.

He retired in 1997, as Human Resources Director for Dyno Nobel in Carthage. He was a member of MENSA; the American Heart Association; past president and honorary lifetime member of the Joplin Humane Society; and organizer for the 100 Club at St. Johns Regional Medical Center. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He was a former Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church, Webb City.

Dick loved to cook, fish, play golf and shoot pool. His favorite past time was watching his grandchildren in all their activities plus teaching them to do the things he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Suzi, of the home; four daughters, Colette St. Peter and her husband, Mark, Joplin, Sara Steinbeck and Audrea Laquet, Kansas City, Mo., Paula Duley and her husband, Greg, Webb City, Nancy Steinbeck, Joplin; grandchildren, Michael Duley, Kristina Duley, Adam St. Peter, Cory Duley, Iszac Burton, Chandlor Burton; and several other extended family members. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Diane Steinbeck; and two brothers, Bill and Bob Steinbeck.

A visitation is planned for Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. A graveside committal is planned for Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
