JOPLIN, Mo. —
Charles W. Knapp, age 88, of Joplin, Mo., a longtime Webb City, Mo. resident, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013.
Charles was born March 17, 1925, in East Lynne, Mo. He recently moved to College View Manor in Joplin after residing in Webb City, since 1956. Charles was a letter carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Webb City for 30 years, retiring in 1984. Charles served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Philippines.
Charles married Betty Ann Canady May 27, 1950, in Springfield, Mo. She preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1998.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda George and Dorothy Mitchell.
Survivors include a son, Greg Knapp and wife, Beth, St. Charles, Mo.; three grandchildren, Brian Knapp and wife, Christina, Seattle, Wash., Steve Knapp and wife, Kristen and Allison Aardsma and husband, Colin, all of St. Louis, Mo.; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Isabella and Adeline.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at the Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home in Webb City, with visitation to follow. Private burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home for viewing this Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
