ST. PAUL, Kan. —

Donald E. "Don" Born, 89, of St. Paul, Kan., passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013, at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1923, north of Parsons, Kan., to Johnnie and Anna (Paulie) Born. He attended school in St. Paul and was a graduate of St. Francis High School.

On Nov. 3, 1943, he and Barbara R. Westhoff were married at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Greenbush, Kan. He was a loving husband and father. He spent most of his life farming and raising cattle on the family farm four miles east and a half mile south of St. Paul. Don was the third generation of Borns to own the home farm that has been in the family for over 100 years. He also ran a small fleet of lime trucks for over 30 years.

Don was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He proudly served on the Unified School District No. 101 School Board and was involved with the consolidation of the district. He enjoyed playing sports, hunting and the many family gatherings. He especially loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing in the yard.

He and Barbara moved to St. Paul in the fall of 2000, after retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three sons, Jim Born and wife, Terry, of the home farm in St. Paul, Ted Born and wife, Carmella, of Olathe, Kan., and Tom Born and wife, Louisa, of Frontenac, Kan.; three daughters, Joan Davied and husband, Jim, of Girard, Kan., Donna Gibson and husband, John, of Riverton, Kan., and Kathie Grosdidier and husband, Steve, of St. Paul; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and two on the way and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Junior (John) Born, of Wichita, Kan., Alban Born, of Garden Plain, Kan., and Bill Born, of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Sister Veronice Born, of Dodge City, Kan., and Rosemary (Born) Duran, of Erie, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Doris Jean Born; his parents, Johnnie and Anna Born; two brothers, Harold and Paul Born; and one sister, Loraine Cox.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
