WEBB CITY, MO — Jack D. Purdum, 78, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, from a sudden illness at his home.

He was born on Nov. 7, 2012, in Cherokee, Kan., to Jacob Arthur Purdum and Lelia Maude Overdyke. Jack was a United States Army Veteran and was honorably discharged with a 1st Lieutenant's Commission. He graduated from Pitt State University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1956. Jack was the head chemist for Farmers Chemical for many years and also worked at Eagle-Picher. Jack was an avid ham radio operator and also taught classes, he was also a former member of the Crawford County Sheriff's Department rescue team as a diver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Purdum on Jan. 10, 1994; sisters, Dawn Purdum Utes and Bee Purdum Glasser; and brothers, Arthur Purdum and Dale Purdum.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Karen Boyd and husband, Steve, of Webb City; step grandchildren, Travis Boyd and wife, Jodi, of Harrison, Ark., Stephanie Taylor and husband, Brenton, of Oronogo, and Kayla Boyd, of Webb City; nieces, Betsy Koontz and husband, Larry, of Pratt, Kan., Judy Fulton and husband, Jack, of Leavenworth, Kan., Rinda Gilpin, of Chetopa, Kan., Mary Elizabeth Rhea and husband, Dennis, of Bourbon, Ind., Neatrice Warner and husband, Terry, of Carrolton, Texas, and Dawn Brethour and husband, Greg, of Cary, N.C.; nephew, Warren D. Purdum and wife, Peggy, of Cherokee; and five step great-grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, at Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, with full military honors.

Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
