SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. —



Mrs. Velma Ruth Lett, 93, of Southwest City, Mo., departed this life into Glory on Monday morning, April 1, 2013, at the Freeman East Hospital in Joplin, Mo., with all four of her daughters at her side.

Velma entered this life on May 23, 1919, in Rural Southwest City, one of seven children born to the union of the late Levi Bert and Maggie Corum Porter Lee (Thornhill) Womack. She had lived all of her life in Southwest City, on land homesteaded by her grandfather.

She married the love of her life, Harry Lett on July 9, 1939, at her parents' home in Southwest City.

Velma was extremely gifted as a seamstress, quilter, crocheting, embroidery, knitting and tatting. She was also very well known for her cooking and especially the delicious pies that she made. She would always win the highest honors at the McDonald County Fair for her quilts. Velma cherished time spent with her family and was always there for them when needed, she was the ultimate grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lett; her son-in-law, Theron Clark; and five brothers, Herbert Womack, Clarence Womack, David Womack, Forrest Womack and Claude Womack.

Velma is survived by her children, Patsy Lett, of Southwest City, Linda Lett, of Joplin, Shirley Lett, of Southwest City, and Debora Clark, of Southwest City; a brother, Levi "Buss" Womack and wife, Betty, of Southwest City; four grandchildren, Megan Worden and husband, Wolfe, of Boulder City, Mo., Lauren Clark, of Rogers, Ark., Nathaniel Clark, of Southwest City, and Katelyn Clark, of Southwest City; great-grandson, Steffen Worden, of Boulder City, and another great-grandchild on the way; as well as a host of other family, friends and neighbors who will dearly miss Velma.  

Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Lett are at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at the First Baptist Church in Southwest City, with Brother Larry Shields officiating. Burial will follow in the Saratoga Cemetery in Southwest City. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Bobby Lett, Harry P. Lett, Rick Field, Steve Womack, Stanley Womack and Mike Hopkins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3, from 5 until 8 p.m. in the Southwest City Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Saratoga Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
