JOPLIN, Mo. —
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Jennifer Jean McGinty, 61, of Joplin, passed away surrounded by her family on April 8, 2013.
Jennifer was born on April 10, 1951, in Rolla, Mo., to Edith and A.J. Gray. She graduated from Belle High School in 1969, and the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1973, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Following graduation, Jennifer moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she worked as a computer analyst for Hallmark Cards and later, Farmland Industries.
She married Charles Christian McGinty, of Neosho, Mo., on March 2, 1974, in St. James, Mo. They were both looking forward to celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary together.
In 1977, Jennifer and Charley moved to Joplin. While living in Joplin, Jennifer worked as a computer systems analyst for The Empire District Electric Company and later as the office manager for her husband's dental practice.
Jennifer cherished her family and friends and her greatest joy was doing things for her daughters and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader and gardener and she gained great happiness from her beloved dogs.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Melissa (Mrs. Ben) Eakes, of Dallas, Texas, and Sarah (Mrs. Jeffrey) Brent, of Fairway, Kan.; three precious grandchildren; and two brothers, James Gray, of Harrison, Ark., and Dennis Gray, of St. James, Mo.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at First Presbyterian Church in Joplin. Rev. Dave Burgess and Wm. Brock Watson will officiate. A private burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
