CARTHAGE, Mo. —
Claude R. McDonald, 88, Carthage, Mo., passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital following a brief illness.
Claude was born Jan. 20, 1924, at Reeds, Mo. to the late Henry and Florence (Taylor) McDonald.
He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 17, 1943, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. and served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was honorably discharged on March 7, 1944, at Camp Carson, Colo.
Claude married Eleanor Offill on Feb. 10, 1964, in Miami, Okla. They made their home in Carthage. Claude worked for Leggett and Platt for 25 years. He later owned and operated his own automotive repair shop. He greatly enjoyed working on cars, especially when he was tinkering with one from the muscle car era. Claude liked being outdoors and enjoyed taking long hikes.
Besides his parents, Claude was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Lee and Katherine Payton; and by one brother, Leo McDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of their home; one daughter, Raedene (Craig) Bryson, Carthage, Mo.; one sister, Vivian Park, Reeds, Mo.; two granddaughters, Crystal (Chris) Whitesell, and Chelle (Andy) Eby; six great-grandchildren, Noah Eby, Hanna Eby, Jonah Eby, Olivia Whitesell, Sophi Whitesell, and Eli Whitesell; other relatives and many friends who will miss him very much.
Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Knell Mortuary. Interment will be in Park Cemetery under direction of Knell Mortuary.
