JOPLIN, MO —

Rayma Jean Morris, age 69, Joplin, passed away at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at a local nursing facility after an illness.

Rayma was born Nov. 10, 1943, in Galena, Kan., to the late Raymond Short and Geraldine Buress Short and had lived in the Joplin area all of her life.

She was operator of housekeeping services at area healthcare facilities for several years. Rayma was a faithful member of Rainbow Covenant Lighthouse, Joplin.

She married Dale J. Morris on June 5, 1959, in Joplin.  He preceded her in death on June 30, 2002.

Survivors include her children, Roy Morris, Richard Morris, Robert Morris and Rusty Hooper, all of Joplin; one grandchild, Zachery Morris; and siblings, Nancy Wilson, Carl Junction, Butch Short, Florida, Linda Savage, Nebraska, Kathy Jones, Joplin, Judy Thomas, Carl Junction, Ray Merrile, Galena, Kan., Steve Merrile, Galena, Sharon Fisher, Kansas, Tammy Pierce, Kansas, and Jim Short, Kansas. In addition to her parents, Rayma was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Short; and a brother, Claude Allen Short.

Funeral services are planned for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Parker Mortuary.  Christopher Sampson will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Rayma will be taken for cremation following the services.  

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
