JOPLIN, MO —
Alvin L. Zar Sr., 96, of Joplin, went to Heaven to be with the Lord and his wife of 62 years, on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at 5:50 p.m. after a short illness.
Born in New Orleans, La., on Oct. 5, 1916.
He is survived by his two sons and their wives, Al Zar Jr. and his wife, Chris, of Joplin, and Randy Zar and his wife, Carrie, of Aptos, Cafli.; grandchildren, Tarrah Patterson and her husband, Stephen, of Joplin, Todd Zar and his wife, Susan, of Joplin, Avrial Zar-Payne and John Payne, of Aptos, and Aaron Zar, of Aptos; great-grandchildren, Lexi Patterson, of Joplin, Hudson Patterson, of Joplin, Madisyn Zar, of Joplin, Mackenzie Zar, of Joplin, Eli Zar, of Joplin, Hunter Payne and Russell Payne, of Aptos; as well as family and friends across the country. He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Becky Zar, who passed in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in his memory to: St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Legacy Campaign for Remodeling, 812 South Pearl, Joplin, MO 64801.
Burial services will be held in New Orleans, where Al and Becky Zar will rest together forever.
The family would like to thank Tammy and John Woods, Michelle Copeland and Gene Frazier, close and lifetime friends for their support.
