JOPLIN, MO —
Robert Lee "Bob" Newdigger, age 89, Joplin, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at his home after a sudden illness.
Bob was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Picher, Okla., to the late Arthur Newdigger and Bertha Lou Mitchell Newdigger and had lived in the Joplin area all of his life.
Bob was a jack of all trades. He retired from the former Sperry Vickers. He worked as a mechanic for Greyhound Bus Lines and GMC Motors. He operated a dump truck and in between shifts could be found hauling coal from place to place around the area. He and his wife also operated Purkett's Manufacturing. He loved to go to auctions and had accumulated and managed many rental properties around the Joplin area.
Bob married Maxine Beatrice Mahan. She preceded him in death on Feb. 29, 2012.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hazel Green Cemetery, Boulder City, Mo. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate.
