WEBB CITY, MO —

Jack Henry Schwatken, age 84, Webb City, Mo., passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Jack was born March 4, 1928, in Fort Scott, Kan., son of the late Orville Leo Schwatken and Blanche Irene Simpson Schwatken. He graduated from Fort Scott High School and attended Fort Scott Community College. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for Western Insurance in Fort Scott for over 22 years, retiring as a claims manager. He later assisted in custom built homes, but farming was his passion. He was also superintendent with the Webb City Parks, and was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church. His biggest love though, was his family, from wife to grandchildren. He devoted much of life to taking care of his family and loving them unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ayers Schwatken, who he married on Sept. 25, 1949, in Fort Scott; children, Linda Schwatken, of Webb City, and Ronald Schwatken and wife, Susan, of Valley Center, Kan.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, with Pastor B.A. Austin officiating.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Park Plaza Christian Church Building Fund.
