JOPLIN, Mo. —
Phillip L. Martin, age 78, of Joplin, passed away at 12:17 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Mercy Hospital Joplin.
Phil was born May 31, 1935, in the Cyclone Community near Pineville, Mo. and had lived in the Joplin area all his life. He owned and operated several businesses. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Phil married Beverly Wheeler Jan. 20, 1956, in Joplin. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 2013.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Frisby and husband, Mike and Kelly Mills and Clinton Clouse, all of Joplin; one sister, Dolores Oakes, Neosho, Mo.; four grandchildren, Rusty, Amanda, Roxi, and Jamie Mills; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Martin; a son, Rocky Martin; a brother, Elmer Martin; and a sister, Juanita Wiseman.
For fun Phil liked to work. In his spare time he likes to clear land, work with his backhoes, loaders, and dump trucks. He loved spending time with his family, friends and church family. He especially enjoyed his morning Coffee Gang and spending time with his sister Dolores.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Wilkins and Rev. Mike Snider officiating. Burial will follow at the Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to AO Vantage Point Day Program in care of the mortuary.
