JOPLIN, Mo. —
Eugene Carl Hirshey, age 85, Joplin, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Missouri Veteran's Home, Mount Vernon, Mo., following a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 27, 1928, in Diamond, Mo., to Roy and Mildred Boone Hirshey, who preceded him in death.
Eugene was employed as an engineer for the Dupont Company. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and attended Northview Assembly of God Church.
He married Pearl Wilson in 2004, in Joplin. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Dean Hirshey and wife, Kathy, Webb City, Mo., and Bill Hirshey, Lawrence, Kan.; one daughter, Joyce Allen and husband, Marlan, Joplin; five brothers, Roger Hirshey, Keith Hirshey, Dennis Hirshey, Wayne Bass and Marvin Bass; one sister, Cristina Phillips; and numerous grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia in 2004; one son, Larry Hirshey; two brothers, J.D. Hirshey and Leroy Hirshey; and one stepson, Dewayne Fields.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Northview Assembly of God, with Rev. Todd Harder officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Carterville, Mo. Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 Sunday, April 21, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
