JOPLIN, Mo. —
Mr. Jerry Lee Woolsey, age 76, of Joplin, Mo., passed away peacefully Friday April 6 2012, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin with his two children at his side.
Jerry was born on July 27, 1935, in Joplin, son of the late Max and Mable Woolsey. He was a Class of 1954 Joplin High School graduate.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force after over 20 years in the military, including service in the Vietnam War and tours in Guam, Philippines, and several other locations in Asia and the U.S.
After retirement he worked for Texas Instruments in Plano, Texas before he moved back to Joplin to take care of his father in 1981.
He married Joyce A. Woolsey in Joplin on June 14, 1956. Joyce survives him and lives in Joplin. Additional survivors include his adopted son, Jerry Max Woolsey and wife, Susan; and grandchildren, Amy, Angela and Kevin Woolsey, all currently living in Virginia; and adopted daughter Kim Elaine Hibbard and husband, Russell; and grandchildren, Mariah, Zachary, and Isaac Hibbard, all of Joplin.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Osborne Memorial Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his father and mother, and infant daughter Joann.
