JOPLIN, Mo. —
Lawrence James Strausbaugh, age 88, Joplin, Mo., passed away on Monday, April 09, 2012, at his home after a sudden illness.
Lawrence was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Paola, Kan., son of the late James Anthony Strausbaugh and Laura Burke Strausbaugh. He graduated from Paola High School, and attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kan., while he was serving in the United States Navy. He served in the United States Navy during World War II where he served in the Asian-Pacific Theater.
He worked for Meadowgold Dairy for several years, and then worked for AAA Refrigeration as a serviceman until his retirement.
He married Marjorie L. Slane on Aug. 4, 1943, in Parsons, Kan., she preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Anderson, and a son, Tom Strausbaugh.
Survivors include a son, Greg Strausbaugh and wife, Paula, of Joplin; a daughter-in-law, Linda Strausbaugh, of Carl Junction; grandchildren, David Anderson, Kelly Anderson, Tamara Strausbaugh, T.J. Strausbaugh, Steven Strausbaugh and wife, Beth, Nancy Martinez and husband, Chris, Bryan Strausbaugh, Kris Strausbaugh and Mychael Strausbaugh; 11 great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Rascal.
Graveside services will be Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Lester Lay officiating, and grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.
