George Ira Markham

JOPLIN, Mo. — In memory of George Ira Markham

George was a wonderful Dad, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather to a multitude of children. His sons, Tom, Jim, Bob and John came to live with us in Burton's Bridge, Ill., to join with my two sons, Bill and Ken in our country home during their preteen and teenage years. We had lots of room for sports, even a skating rink and the Fox River was nearby. The large attached garage made a wonderful recreation room for the growing family. We prayed for a daughter and decided to apply for foster care. Fred and Barb Gieske joined our ever growing family so we finally got our little girl. Then Fred Doll came in and shared our happy home.

George and I worked at local hospitals in the business offices. We were so fortunate to have the older children care for the younger ones.

God answered our prayer and sent us our very own beautiful baby girl, Diana.

The boys were as excited as we were and even helped with her care.

As the family grew up and some of the boys became husbands and dads, we decided to build a new home in Woodstock, Ill. Years flew by and our children were busy raising their own families. George and I decided to move to a warmer climate and went off to check out Florida. George's Uncle Herb's wife was not doing well so he wanted us to help out, with Diana age 9 in tow and all the rest of the family on their own. We sold our home and were off to Sunny California. In 1982, we purchased a bungalow at a great price and 30 years have passed now and Diana and I love it here. Son Bill and family come to visit and he keeps our home in ship shape condition. Fruit trees and flowers fill the backyard English garden many to commemorate those loved ones who went before.

We are so blessed to live here. We look forward to the day we will all meet up yonder. What a wonderful reunion that will be.
