Donald G. Severn

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Donald Gene Severn, of Airport Drive/Webb City left this world to be with his Lord and Savior Feb. 27, 2014.

Don was born on July 21, 1931, in Joplin. The son of Jasper and Elsie Severn, he graduated from Joplin High School in 1950.

He married Margaret L Wilson on Sept. 7, 1952, she survives.

Don served in the United States Navy for four years serving on the ammunition ship, USS Mazama. He then worked at Rogers Iron Works in Joplin as the personnel manager for five years and retired from B. F. Goodrich in Miami, Okla., where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. In recent years, Don was a member of the mowing crew that tended to the grounds of the Carl Junction Cemetery. Don was a master carpenter, building numerous pieces of furniture for his home, his loved ones and his friends.

Donald and his wife Margaret have spent a lifetime of devotion to the Carl Junction First Baptist Church where Don served as a deacon and the head usher. He also taught the 5th grade Sunday School class. He is survived by a large and loving Church family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Robert Severn; and a sister, Aileen King.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Gwendolyn Ewing and husband, Galen, Carl Junction, Denise Elliott and husband, T. Mark, Oronogo and Jeanne Babb and husband, Charley, Carthage; nine grandchildren, Rhett Elliott and wife, Mary, Haley Elliott, Hillary Frey and husband, Nick, Steven Hildreth, Michael Hildreth, Natalie Martin and husband, Jay, Clayton Babb, Joshua Ewing and Hannah Walker and husband, Zack; seven great- grandchildren, Tommy Elliott, Arden Elliott, Cecilia Hildreth, Molly Martin, twins, Cash and Lane Martin and Anora Walker; brother, Leonard Severn and wife, Charlene, Platte City, Mo.; and sisters, Florence Wolsey, Frontenac, Kan. and Sharon Severn, DeSoto, Mo., also survive.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Carl Junction with Reverend Steve Stafford officiating. Visitation is Monday 6 to 7 p.m. at the church. Pallbearers will be the grandsons and Art Maddox. Military Rites and burial will follow the services at the Carl Junction Cemetery.
