MOUNT VERNON, Mo —
Gerald E. "Jerry" Cooper, 87, passed away on May 22, 2013, at Mt. Vernon Veterans Home.
Jerry was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Joplin, Mo. to Vincil Cooper and Sylvia Schaffer. Jerry graduated from Sheldon High School. Jerry served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked for the Lawnboy manufacturing in Lamar and the City of Sheldon.
Gerald E. "Jerry" Cooper and Juanita Upton were married and born to this union were three children; one son, Jim and Teresa Cooper, of Lamar, Mo; and two daughters, Terry and Doug Elrod, of Pittsburg, Kan. and Billie and Shawn Platner, of Webb City, Mo.; Jerry is also survived by one sister, June Kessee, of Topeka Kan.; four grandchildren, Lacey, Gerry, Josh, and Jordan; six great-grandchildren, Elise, Zach, Trevor, Alexandra, Kelsey and Addie. Jerry is preceded by his parents; and two brothers, Jack Cooper and Truman Cooper.
Graveside memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the Sheldon Cemetery.
