JOPLIN, MO —
Jack Wilbur Riggs, age 88, of Joplin, passed Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Autumn Leaves Assisted Living facility in Carrollton, Texas.
Jack was born April 15, 1924, in Joplin, to the late Samuel W. Riggs and Ruth Lavon Rodgers Riggs. He attended Webb City schools, graduating in 1943, and then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Jack was the owner and president of the former RGS Engineering Company. He was past president and board member of Twin Hills Country Club, past president of the Optimist Club and the American Society of Tool & Die Engineers, he was a member of the Joplin Rotary Club, Joplin Chamber of Commerce, St. Philips Episcopal Church, Joplin Fellowship Lodge No. 345 of Masonic Lodge, Joplin Scottish Rites, Joplin Shrine Club, Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Jack loved the outdoors; his hobbies included golf, fishing and flying airplanes. His honor, courage and virtue meant everything to him, but his wife Donna was his greatest love and passion.
Jack married Donna D. Coffey on Aug. 7, 1946, in Columbus, Kan. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 2001.
A daughter, Pamela Riggs Korns; a grandson, Richard Korns; and two sisters, Juanita Pittman and Shirley Ellis, also preceded him in death.
He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Riggs Moore and husband, Mike, of Southlake, Texas; three grandchildren, Kristin Balac and husband, George, of Indiana, Amanda Parish and husband, Christopher, of Texas, and Whitney Moore, of Texas; a great granddaughter, Kourtney Waskick, of Indiana; great-grandson, Brandon Balac, of Indiana; a brother, Bernard Riggs, of Joplin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. Masonic rites will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. with visitation to follow until 7 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
