NEOSHO, Mo. —
Everett L. McGinnis, age 61, of rural Neosho, Mo., passed away at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, following a sudden illness.
Everett was born Aug. 29, 1951, in Joplin, Mo., and was a lifetime area resident. He was employed as a job supervisor with Joplin Construction Design Management Co. and later worked 15 years as a Ranger for the Girl Scouts at Camp Suzanne, where he taught horseback riding to over 1,000 Girl Scouts. Everett served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Post 7630 in Webb City. His hobbies included rebuilding cars and motorcycles.
Everett married Carolyn McReynolds Feb. 25, 1974, in Miami, Okla. She survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Marcus McGinnis and wife, Angela, Oronogo, Mo.; three daughters, Amanda Sanders and husband, Kenny, Neosho, Michelle McGinnis and Candy Reynolds, both of Webb City, Mo.; his mother, Ruth Marie McGinnis, Carterville, Mo.; one brother, Terry McGinnis, Diamond, Mo.; one sister, Jeanne Cook, Carterville, Mo.; and nine grandchildren, Keesha, Dashawn and Drake McGinnis, Kyle, Keaton and Kolton Sanders, Clay, Hailey and Jaima; and a longtime Marine Corp brother, Roy Dean Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene McGinnis; two brothers, Steve and Bobby McGinnis; and a sister, Nancy McGinnis.
Everett's wishes were to be cremated. Memorial visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Graveside services of cremains with Military Honors will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Oronogo Cemetery with Mike Geisert, Minister, officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory, of Joplin.
