SENECA, Mo. —
Jimmy Williams, age 87, of Seneca, Mo., passed away at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Landmark Hospital after a fall.
Born Nov. 13, 1925, in Joplin, he was the son of the late James Steven Williams and Mable Evans Williams, and was a lifetime Joplin resident. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served aboard the USS Taluga. Jimmy retired from Prudential Insurance Company in 1987, after 31 years of service as an agent and staff manager. A longtime member of First Christian Church, he had sung in the church choir since 1974. He was also active in the MSSU Choral Society in Joplin and the Crowder Choral Society in Neosho.
He married Alma Overman on June 25, 1948, in Joplin. She preceded him in death Nov. 27, 2002.
A brother, Carl Williams and three sisters, Nedra Johnson, Ruth Bridges and Virginia (Imogene) Lea, also preceded him in death.
On Nov. 13, 2010, he married Donna Mae Kohler King in Seneca. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Cindy Ogden and husband, Randy, of Tulsa, Okla.; two special nieces whom were like daughters to him, Sherri and Patti; three stepchildren, Kevin King, of Kansas City, Mo., Barbara Severson, of Branson, Mo., and Jerri King, of Independence, Mo.; six step grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Lenora Williams, of Phoenix, Ariz., Lois Campbell, of Joplin, and Carol Schreiner, of Grandview, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and one great-great-nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, of Joplin, with Rev. Fred Pugh and Rev. Fay Blevins officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul and Chad Burrington, Darrell Orender, Aaron Schmid, Dennis Lea and Howard Schreiner. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin King, Andy Snider and Jeff Moss. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Parker Mortuary.
