DIAMOND, Mo. —
Richard Lynn "Rick" Hoagland, age 62, of Diamond, Mo., passed away at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home following a brief battle with esophageal cancer.
Born June 22, 1951 in Joplin, he was the son of the late Martin and Hazel Lindsey Hoagland and had lived in the area his lifetime. He was a 1971 graduate of Parkwood High School in Joplin. Rick worked at FAG Bearing from 1974 until retiring in 2006. He was a member of Central Christian Center.
On July 3, 1992, he married the former Linda C. Wheeler in Joplin. She survives.
Additional survivors include children, Melanie York and husband, Bob, of Diamond, Matthew Hoagland and wife, Shalimar, of Golden, Mo., Sara Shelton and husband, Steve, of Joplin, and Marshall McCumber, of Diamond; siblings, Kenny Hoagland and wife, Nancy, Dennis Hoagland and wife, Nancy, Marta Petty and husband, Stanley and Terry Hoagland and wife, Amy, all of Joplin; sister, Mary Jane Moore and husband, Clarence, of Butlerville, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Savannah and Aliyah Hoagland, Steven and Trevon Shelton, Lindsay and Ashley York, Zoe and Jacob McCumber; and one great-granddaughter, Aviana Shelton. In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by infant grandsons, Taylor and Coby York.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary, after which, the body will be cremated.
