Mrs. Evelyn R. Snider

PITTSBURG, Kan. —

Mrs. Evelyn Snider went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 1:03 a.m.

She was born on June 20, 1927, to William (Bill) and Cecil Holden in Joplin, Mo.  Evelyn grew up on the northwest side of Joplin.

She married Jesse Snider on Jan. 1, 1944, after a watch night service at 2nd Assembly of God in Joplin.

She worked at multiple places when they lived in Joplin: Safeway Bakery, Dorflex Industries and LaBarge Corporation. However, she always said the best job she ever had was being a pastor's wife. She stood beside her husband of 64 ½  years as his co-pastor working right beside him at Reeds, Mo., Noel, Mo., Arcadia, Kan., Miami, Okla., Greenfield, Mo., McCleansboro, Ill., and Lakin, Kan. She loved teaching the word of God.

Survivors include one son, Steve Snider, of Pittsburg, Kan.; one daughter, Rev. Gayla Shaffer, of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Marilyn West, of Carl Junction, Mo., and Dorothy Crowder, of Joplin; one brother, Chester Holden, of Joplin; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 ½ years, Rev. Jesse Snider; her father and mother, William (Bill) and Cecil Holden; brothers, Joe Holden, Bob Holden, Delmer Holden and Virgil Holden; and sister, Florence Atkinson.

She was known to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for her unconditional love that she continually showed to her family and others. Her legacy of teaching God's word and consistent prayer life will be lived out in those whose lives she touched. To God be the glory for a life well lived.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the 2nd Assembly of God. Rev. Ray Hundley, Bill Hobson and Mark Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in the Carl Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Mason-Woodard Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted for the Duenweg Assembly of God Church in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Chapel.
