JOPLIN, Mo. —
James “Jim” Putnam, 79, of Joplin, Mo., passed away Monday, April 23, 2012, from a lengthy illness. He was a beloved and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was a humble hero to many.
Jim was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Washburn, Mo., to James and Olive Penniston-Putnam.
He was employed by Eagle Picher Manufacturing and retired in 1996.
Jim had lived in the Joplin area for the past 50 years and was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of Gideon’s International.
Jim married Bonnie Higgs on Aug. 2, 1958, in Wheaton, Mo., who survives.
He was also survived by one son, Randy Putnam, Joplin; one daughter, Nancy Prater and husband, Michael, Muncie, Ind.; two grandchildren, Mikel Anne and Audrey Prater; two nephews, Barney and Gary Banks, Fairview, Mo.; and one niece, Treva McCool, Grove, Okla. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Marjorie Banks, Evelyn Gavisk and Dorothy Putnam.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday April 27, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel, Joplin, with Rev. Charlie Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Cassville, Mo. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 7 at Mason-Woodard Mortuary Chapel.
In lieu of flowers contribution are suggested to Gideon’s International in care of the mortuary.
