MIAMI, Okla. —
Betty Lou Gonce, of Miami, Okla., departed this life on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in Warr Acres, Okla. She was 90.
Mrs. Gonce was born May 18, 1923, in Zincville, Okla., to Rev. Harley Leroy and Pearl Mae (Crow) Niday. She had lived in the Quapaw area most of her life before moving to Miami three years ago. She was a 1943, graduate of Quapaw High School.
She had worked as a clerk-typist at Boca Raton Field, FL, as a nurses aide at the Picher Hospital and Old American Hospital in Picher until their closing, and as an inspector of soldiers uniforms at Glen Berry Manufacturing in Commerce.
Mrs. Gonce was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Quapaw, had served as President of the VFW Ladies Auxillary #8676 and had served as President of the Quapaw PTA.
She married Earl Gonce on Aug. 29, 1942. He preceded her in death on Mar. 11, 1991. She was also preceded by her parents; and two sisters.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacquetta Keeton, of Warr Acres; two granddaughters, Adena Colbert, of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Lezlie Kropf, of Yukon, Okla.; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Trevor Colbert, Rick Colbert, Erik Kropf, Don Huffman, Chris Huffman and Elmer Wayne Sharp will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be in Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs, Kan. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home, of Miami.
