Ivan R. Collins, Jr.

COLUMBUS, Kan. — Ivan Ray Collins Jr. passed from this life on July 10, 2013, in Columbus, Kan.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1935, in Picher, Okla., to Ivan Ray Sr. and Marjorie Mae (Gillett) Collins. He entered the navy in 1955, where he worked on systems that supported radar in military aircrafts. He was active duty until 1959, when he began using his expertise at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., working on planes like the Boeing B-52. Other employment included the Land Air Company in Chicago, The Martin Company in Wichita, The Lear Jet Company in Wichita, North American Rockwell Corporation in Tulsa, Farmers Insurance of Wichita, Simplex Time Recorder Company of Tulsa, Conklin Company, Southern Extrusions Division of Magnolia, Ark., Olinkraft in Lillie, La., Self Employed as an Electrical Maintenance Contractor, and for F&S Supply in Iola, Kan., as Supervisor of Sales. . Ivans most recent work history includes the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center as a Director of Maintenance.

He married Agnes Jean Wiske on June 15, 1985. She preceded him in death  on Sept. 3, 2003.

He was a member of Center Christian Church, Columbus, Kan., as well as a member of the Lions Club of Columbus, VFW Post 1372 of Columbus, KS, American Legion of Columbus, KS, and the Galena Masonic Lodge #194.

Survivors include one brother, Pat Collins, of Galena; one sister, Helen Knetzer, of Wichita, Kan.; and one step-daughter, Paula Doman (husband, Alan), of Medicine Lodge, Kan.

Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Center Christian Church, Columbus, Kan. Pastor Tom Goettle will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, Kan. Visitation will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home, of Columbus on Sunday July 14, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus High School Wrestling Team, or Center Christian Church. Online condolences may be expressed at
