JOPLIN, Mo. —
Sharon Kay Vallier, age 57, Joplin, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Landmark Hospital after losing her battle with lung cancer.
Sharon was born May 17, 1955, in Scotia, Calif., to Mary Brooks Ward and the late Ray Ward. Sharon had lived in the Joplin and Southeast Kansas area for over 20 years and had lived in the Decatur, Ill. area for 25 years.
Sharon devoted her life to helping others. She worked for the State of Illinois and the State of Missouri in the Children's Division. She enjoyed her work and made many friends along the way. She is a graduate of University of Illinois and Southwest Missouri State University.
She is survived by her two sons, Bryan Vallier, Decatur, and Nathan Vallier, Juneau, Alaska; her mother, Mary Ward, Erie, Kan.; one sister, Loretta Kopaczewski, Appleton, Wis.; and her granddaughter, Wray Ann Vallier, Decatur.
A visitation is planned for Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Parker Mortuary and a service/reception later Saturday.
