JOPLIN, Mo. —
Martha Helen Hays, age 94, Joplin, passed away at 9:27 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Spring River Christian Village.
Helen was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Bolivar, Mo., to the late William A. Hays and Nora D. Tunnel Hays and had lived in Joplin most of her life.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Empire District Electric Company and retired from there after many years of service. She was also a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Joplin.
Helen is survived by three nieces, Linda Smotherman, Overland Park, Kan., Betty Summers, Greenfield, and Joan Peddicord, Hemet, Calif.; and one nephew, Everett Griffin, Shawnee, Kan.
The family would also like to mention some good friends that went out of their way to take extra care of Helen. They are Pam and Jeff Powers and Cindy Deisley.
Services are planned for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Brandon Dorris will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time at Parker Mortuary. Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Masonic Cemetery, Dadeville, Mo. Pallbearers will be Jeff Powers, Benny Bough, Doc Smotherman, Everett Griffin, Steve Bough and Rodney Chism.
