Dorothy F. Durham

JOPLIN, MO —

Dorothy F. Durham, 85, of Joplin, Mo., went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at 3:15 am following a lengthy illness.

Dorothy was born on Nov. 7, 1926, in Galena, Kan., to C.O. and Florence Johnson.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Billy Durham 66 years ago in Galena, Kan. Together they raised three children. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Dorothy was a homemaker and helped her husband to operate a farm for over 50 years in rural Carl Junction, as well as owning Durham Implement for 23 years. She was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin. She had a love of children and worked in church's nurseries most of her life. Her church and living her life as a Christian were really important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, (C.O. Johnson Jr.); and sisters, Mildred Hetherington, and Eileen Wade.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Durham; one daughter, Cheryl Baker and her husband, Larry, of Joplin; a son, Billy Durham Jr. and his wife, Kristin, of Coffeyville, Kan.; and a son Bob Durham, Joplin. She leaves a legacy of grandchildren, Michelle Thomson, Ryan Baker, Brooke Austin and Blaire Blagg. She also has five great-grandchildren, Michaela, Carter and Madeline Thomson and Quentin and Colby Austin.

She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. in Forest Park Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Mertens officiating. Burial will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery with Ryan Baker, Chris Thomson, Carter Thomson, Quenten Austin, Mathew Austin and Denis Durham serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 9 a.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions may be given to Forest Park Baptist Church Building Program.
