The Joplin Globe

LAMAR, Mo. —

In the comfort of his home a "good-ole boy" was called home. Henry Edward Bailey passed peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.

Henry was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Christina; his parents, Tom and Ella (Simmons) Bailey, of Arcola; his brothers, Willard and wife, Ruby and Joe and wife, LaRue; and his sisters, Gladys and husband, Lee Richardson and Maye and husband, Howard Gass.

Henry was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Cedar County and graduated from Arcola School in 1944, (he was third in his class).  He was inducted into the Army in January 1945, and served as a Military Policeman with the 800th M.P. Battalion in Kyoto, Japan.

Henry married Esther Dolores Roth Nov. 10, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lamar. They called Lamar home, raising 12 children, Barbara, Beverly, Christina, Edward, Kathleen, Phillip, Martha, Amiee, Joey, Scott, Noelle and Steven. He has 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Henry was a life-long farmer, he truly loved to work the land. He played baseball as a kid and never lost his passion for following the game. Henry was a member of the Lamar Metro Club and could always be found "making-the-rounds" and greeting all his friends with a wave and a smile.

The family received friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Daniel Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.
