COLUMBUS, Kan. —
Herman S. Lang Jr., 84, of Columbus, Kan., passed from this life on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at his home with his family surrounding him.
Herman was born on Dec. 7, 1928, at Tomnolin, Miss., to the union of Herman Sr. and Thelma (Stephens) Lang.
He was united in marriage on May 28, 1951, at Greenville, Miss., to (Tommie) Jewel Lang. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2005.
Herman's most recent employment was driving the SEK Cap bus out of Girard, Kan. Herman enjoyed puzzles and word puzzle books. He put together model airplanes and worked on numerous train sets. Every year he volunteered with his daughter to help fill mission bags at the church. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs. He and Jewel also fostered for more than 25 years.
Herman is preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Lewis Lang; one sister, Willy Hartley; one grandson, Alan Tash; and one great-granddaughter Alexandra Tash.
He is survived by one son, Wayne Lang and wife, Cindy, of Columbus; five daughters, Shirley Morton and husband, Joe, of Columbus, Nadine Woods and husband, Lance, of Lowell, Kan., Pat Tash and husband, Arley, of Riverton, Kan., Gail Truster, of Webb City, Mo., and Sarah Thompson and husband, Jason, of Riverton; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Jeff Street will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, Kan. Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pallbearers for the service are Tim Tash, Travis Tash, Terry Lang, Dustin Morton, Chris Truster, Zach Truster and Corey Lang.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
