WEBB CITY, MO — Jerry S. Mayes, age 77, passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at 4:50 a.m. at Freeman West. He was born March 28, 1933, in Buffalo, Kan., to William and Esther (Puckett) Mayes. Jerry was a 1951 graduate of Webb City High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the V.F.W., Joplin Elks and Briarbrook Golf. Jerry was employed at Atlas Powder, (ICI) until retirement. Jerry married Norma Dunlop June 1958, and she survives at the home. Additional survivors include daughter, Becki Brown and spouse Steve, of Webb City; grandson, Shane Mullins; granddaughter, Alexi Brown; sisters, Wilma Guiou and Linda Mayes, both of Tulsa; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Mayes and father, William Mayes; as well as four brothers; and three sisters. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Open Air Pavilion at Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.
